The XXVIII Rincón

The Rincon Triathlon began in
1982, as an athletic activity by the Rincon Community Youth Center
and Dr. Hector Nazario, on behalf of the Rincon Rural Health
Initiative Project. It was so popular with the town community that
it was repeated the following year as part of the activities related
to the Santa Rosa Festival. After this successful second event, the
Rincon Triathlon became an annual event and grew in size and
popularity with the Triathlete community. Eventually, the date was
changed to the second Sunday of June.
In 1992, the Rincon Triathlon
was formalized and became the Rincon Triathlon, Inc., with Millie
Tillero as President, Samuel Sanchez as Vice President, Catalino
Caro as Secretary, Danilo Rosado as Treasurer, with Juan Gonzalez,
Alfredo Raffuci, Albert Morales, Angel Caro, Micky Urrutia and
Manuel Rivera as officers at large. These community leaders have
ensured the successful continuation of the Rincon Triathlon, which
is considered the best in Puerto Rico.
Besides the directors and main
volunteers, over one hundred members of the community volunteer to
ensure that all phases of the event are successful.
At the arrival of our
twenty-fifth anniversary, we'd like to recognize all who have participated
in these events and who are a part of our history. To the Triathletes, volunteers, sponsors and members of the Rincon
Triathlon Corporation, we extend a heartfelt thanks for making the
Rincon Triathlon a successful world-class event.
